BBRC Work Party Assisting Housing at the Crossroads

BELLEVUE, WA — Sep 6, 2010 — It was a beautiful sunny morning in early fall – a morning when most people would like to be spending their time outdoors doing fun things. These BBRCers — Howard Johnson, Kevin and Judy Jewell, Jim Owens, Jeff Cashman, Steve Peters and daughters Gabrielle and Sophia, Lee Smith and Ron Healey — are no different, but they chose to have fun while being helpful to those less fortunate at a work party benefitting Housing at the Crossroads.

The BBRC made a Major Grant contribution in the Spring of 2010 to HAC to purchase new windows and siding for an apartment for the homeless. In true BBRC tradition, a work party accompanied the grant, so that we could move beyond just giving usable donations of funds to giving of ourselves to help build, repair, or replace, as needed.

Jeff Roberts of HAC reported that with the economic downturn, HAC would not have been able to afford the new windows or siding without the help from BBRC. It was desperately needed, and they were delighted to also be able to cut costs by having our BBRC handymen and women work for several hours, accomplishing both inside and outside prep work, in order to have the building ready to receive the windows and siding next week.

BBRC has had the privilege of not only having the opportunity to provide funds to this nonprofit, but also dedicating ourselves in service of others. This is an ongoing tradition within our Rotary Club.
