A life-long educator and Fulbright scholar, John Armenia, was also a 26-year Rotarian, first in the Gig Harbor Club and since June 2006, in the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club. He served in many club and District positions over the years and was selected Rotarian of the Month in May 2007 by the BBRC for his work with the Group Study Exchange, including serving as Eastside Coordinator for District 5030 in 2007 and 2010. He was also chosen as Rotarian of the Year in 1992-1993.
John underwent surgery and follow-up treatments in the fall of 2007 for lung cancer. He recently finished a second round of treatment for the cancer, which had returned.
John moved with his wife Brenda not long ago from their home in Redmond to a temporary residence, in anticipation of retiring to the house they have built in Arizona.
John Armenia died Saturday, August 28, 2010.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, at 11:00 am, at Sacred Heart Church (Clyde Hill), 9460 NE 14th Street, Bellevue.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 8, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Sunset Hills Funeral Home, 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue.
